What Inventory Observation Looks Like on a Factory Floor
From count sheets to cut-off tags: how independent attendance supports the year-end stock figure.
We arrive before the count begins, not after the first aisle is finished. That timing lets us watch how teams mark locations, handle slow-moving bins, and decide when a pallet is counted twice.
Our role is observation, not counting for the company. We select test counts, compare to client sheets, and note cut-off for goods received and shipped on the count date.
Damaged or quarantine stock deserves its own walk. A clean aisle can hide a corner of obsolete parts that should be written down before the balance sheet is locked.
After the floor work, we reconcile selected items to the perpetual records and ask for explanations of large variances. Those explanations often become the most useful part of the management letter.
